Listening Comprehension (LC) is often called the "lowest-hanging fruit" in the PSLE English paper. It's an area where many students can significantly boost their overall score with the right approach. Though LC makes up only 10% of the English paper, it can have a disproportionate effect on your child’s overall score:
  • It’s fast-paced: Each passage is played only twice. Your child needs to be on their toes!
  • It’s low-effort, high-reward: Most students can do well here with proper strategy and consistent practice.

The LC component evaluates your child’s ability to:
  • Understand spoken texts at both literal and inferential levels.
  • Identify key messages, details, and main ideas.
  • Infer meaning and draw conclusions based on tone, vocabulary, and context.
Our enhanced content for English Listening Comprehension is built to give your child the edge they need:
  • Diverse Audio Exposures: We've expanded our library with a wide variety of audio clips – from news segments and interviews to real-life conversations and public announcements. This exposes students to different accents, speaking speeds, and contexts, preparing them for the breadth of scenarios they might encounter.
  • Targeted Question Formats: Questions meticulously crafted to mirror the types found in the PSLE syllabus, emphasizing inferential understanding, identifying main ideas, and discerning the speaker's intent.
  • Instant Feedback and Progress Tracking: See exactly where your child excels and where they need more support

Tips that can change the game for your child?
1. Teach your child to always read the questions during the 30-second preview period before the audio starts. This habit primes the brain to listen out for keywords and answers and helps them stay focused and confident throughout the paper.
2. Actively jot down key points while listening to the passage, especially those related to the questions. This strategy will help eliminate wrong answers and allow students to narrow down their choices.  Practise Now!
